Director of Corporate Governance
Velindre University NHS Trust
As a nationally significant organisation within NHS Wales, Velindre University NHS Trust delivers specialist cancer services for South East Wales alongside critical blood, transplant and diagnostic services for patients and hospitals across the whole of Wales. Our work is complex, safety‑critical and deeply purposeful, underpinned by a highly skilled and committed workforce.
The Trust is now at a pivotal moment. Alongside the operational and financial pressures facing the wider health system, Velindre is completing one of the most ambitious transformation programmes in Welsh healthcare: development of the new, state‑of‑the‑art Velindre Cancer Centre; and the modernisation of Wales’s national blood and transplant service.
Our ten‑year strategy, Destination 2033, sets a clear ambition to deliver high‑quality, sustainable and person‑centred care; to be a beacon for research and innovation; and to place the wellbeing and engagement of our people at the heart of everything we do.
Following a period of change, we are now looking to appoint a substantive Director of Corporate Governance. This is a rare opportunity to shape how governance, assurance and organisational integrity are led within one of Wales’s most important NHS organisations. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Chair, Board and executive colleagues, the Director of Corporate Governance will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Trust operates with the highest standards of probity, transparency and accountability. By providing leadership to our corporate governance function you will be focussed on strengthening board assurance, risk management, compliance and decision-making at a time when clear oversight and confident leadership are more critical than ever.
We are seeking an individual of exceptional credibility, judgement and influence; someone who combines deep technical expertise in corporate governance with the ability to build trusted relationships at Board level and beyond. You will be a calm, authoritative advisor, capable of navigating complexity and ambiguity, and of translating regulatory and statutory requirements into practical, proportionate and effective governance frameworks. Just as importantly, you will be a visible leader for your teams, fostering a culture of professionalism, continuous improvement and service excellence.
In return, Velindre offers the opportunity to make a profound impact on services that touch lives across Wales. You will be part of an ambitious, values-driven organisation, helping to steer it through transformation while ensuring that patient safety, public confidence and organisational integrity remain at the forefront. If you are motivated by purpose and committed to excellence we would be delighted to hear from you.
