Velindre University NHS Trust is a provider of highly specialised services across Wales. We deliver specialist cancer services for South East Wales alongside national blood, transplant, diagnostic and laboratory services for patients and hospitals across the whole of Wales. Our work is complex, safety-critical and deeply purposeful, underpinned by a highly skilled and committed workforce. We also occupy a unique position within NHS Wales through hosting nationally significant organisations including NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP) and Health Technology Wales (HTW), giving the Trust a distinctive role in shaping innovation, improvement and system leadership across Wales.
The Trust wishes to be recognised as excellent by donors, patients, partners and peer organisations across the UK and Europe. We are now at a pivotal moment in our development. Alongside the forthcoming opening of the new Velindre Cancer Centre in 2027, one of the most significant healthcare infrastructure developments in Wales, we are continuing the transformation of our nationally important blood and transplant services while strengthening our role as a strategic leader across the Welsh healthcare landscape. These developments place the organisation in a strong position to influence outcomes well beyond our direct services through collaboration with Health Boards, Welsh Government, academia, industry and wider partners.
Looking ahead, our ten-year strategy, Destination 2033, sets an ambitious course for the organisation: delivering high-quality, sustainable and person-centred services; advancing research, digital innovation and clinical excellence; and creating an environment in which our people can thrive and perform at their best. As we enter the next phase of our journey, following the appointment of our substantive Chief Executive, we are focused on building a strong, cohesive and forward-looking Executive Team capable of delivering these ambitions and enhancing Velindre's impact across Wales and beyond.
We are now seeking an exceptional Executive Director of Strategy, Planning, Partnerships and Communications to join our Board and play a central role in shaping the future direction of the Trust.
This is a rare opportunity to contribute at the highest level of a nationally respected specialist healthcare organisation. As an Executive Director and key strategic advisor to the Chief Executive and Board, you will lead the development and delivery of the Trust's strategic agenda, ensuring that organisational priorities, planning processes and investment decisions support sustainable growth, outstanding outcomes and long-term value for the people of Wales.
As our new Executive Director of Strategy, Planning, Partnerships and Communications, you will lead one of the Trust's most influential portfolios, shaping organisational strategy, planning, performance, communications and engagement at a pivotal moment in Velindre's development. Working across the Board, NHS Wales, Welsh Government, academia and wider partners, you will drive transformation, identify new opportunities for growth and innovation, strengthen the Trust's profile and influence, and build the partnerships that will help deliver our ambitious vision for the future. With oversight of the Velindre Charity and a key role in articulating the Trust's story, you will help position Velindre as a leading voice in specialist healthcare, collaboration and service excellence.
We are seeking an accomplished executive leader with a strong track record of operating at Board level within a comparably complex organisation. You will bring significant experience of strategy development, and leading large-scale transformation, organisational planning, partnership working, developing business cases and managing major capital projects, combined with a sophisticated understanding of the wider policy and political environment within which public services, in particular health and social care, operate. Equally important will be your ability to build credibility and trust with colleagues, partners and stakeholders, influence across organisational boundaries and lead through complexity with clarity and purpose.
If you are motivated by the opportunity to shape the future of specialist healthcare on a national stage, we would be delighted to hear from you.
